1) He changes his pricing all the time

It is difficult to find pricing on vendors, they generally don’t like to put that upfront because they like to chat with you and gauge how much they should charge you. It doesn’t mean they are untrustworthy, but sometimes there are tons of changes about a wedding. (Wouldn’t it be so great to have a site that shows you all those details with prices? Oh yeah, I know a site that does that!)

However, once you had a conversation online, or through our message system, you should have the vendor spelling out exactly what you will receive, usually in a simple and straight forward way. Ensure you have the vendor noting down all your details and all the fees and prices are included and talked about. Most vendors will be respectful to fees, but some bad ones would try to make more money out of you, and introduce new services to upsell, or confuse you with how the package didn’t actually include that.

2) He doesn’t remember the details of your wedding

If your vendor doesn’t double or triple check the details of your wedding like colours for your wedding, or where your venue is, you should seriously consider switching because it will be stressful and hectic on your wedding day. It’d be bad sign if she/he already has trouble keeping track now.

3) He isn’t courteous or easy to work with

When you try to redeem your voucher with them, do they welcome you with open arms and give you a courteous consultation? If they are trying to limit your purchase, or try to add on with tons of fees and being generally difficult to work with, then be sure not to continue. It’s a great way to test out vendors, during the redemption process, it’s a great sign if they are easy to deal with and happy to accommodate small changes, because aflexible vendor will be a vendor who strive for problem solving on your day.

4) He is slow with responses

Does he get back to your message online within a day, two days or usually a week? Most vendors who are reliable, responsible and easy to work with will also be prompt on responses and great with follow ups.

Are they on time for your consultation meeting? Do they show up well-prepared? How they are like with your conversation will show you whether they are a fit or not.

5) He asks for cash

If a vendor consults with you about your wedding day, and during the consultation, he or she asks you to pay cash, you should be really careful. First of all there is no trace or tracking on cash payment, so anyone can scam you during a coffee meeting about a thousand dollar deposit, so be really careful where and how you spend your money, and always get a receipt.

Secondly, if a vendor breaks guidelines to close your booking, it’s a sure sign your vendor lacks business acumen and could be a risky hire for your big day. Make sure to hire a vendor who plays by the rules… it’s a sign of who will be reliable and professional on your big day.
