This topic has been on my mind for the past couple of days. I was looking at all these cute photos of the ring bearers and flower girls, and I realized the photographer never captures the 3 year old runaway ring bearer or the 6 year old flower girl on a sugar high. I figured it was time to go through some tips and must-haves for these types of situations.

My first tip would be: designate a babysitter!

Main thing you need to have when having a young child incorporated into your wedding is a person that will take care of that child most of the ceremony and/or reception. You need someone responsible that knows how to deal with various situations that can happen during your big day. If it is too much work for one person and not enough play you could also make sure it is a few people that take turns taking care of the little rascal.

Second Must Have

Instead of giving the child sweets that are fattening and full of sugar, give him/her some baby cookies. You can find these at any local grocery store. They are usually pretty healthy and have some vitamins in them. They still taste great therefore the children will love them and you won’t have to worry about the sugar kicking in.

The Third Tip

Make sure to keep the kids away from any type of liquids and foods that they will be able to spill all over that cute little pink dress, or in the boys’ case that handsome little suit you got for him. Make sure the babysitter assists them with handling foods and drinks.

The Third Must Have

Bring an extra outfit. You never know what can happen during the event and you don’t want to risk not having your son/daughter/niece/nephew in the wedding over some puddle stains on the dress. Or the cranberry juice spill that happened in that one split second while you and the girls were doing a group hug. Even if the second outfit doesn’t match the theme exactly, as long as the colors are similar it will be perfectly fine.

These are a few tips for your wedding day to help you out in worst-case scenarios. They will also help with relieving some stress on your wedding day. However, they are still kids no matter what and the most important thing in the end is for everyone to enjoy themselves, even the babies =). They can be little rascals sometimes but they are your rascals and that’s all that matters.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day,

Katarina I.
