This picture isn’t the most creative one our photographer took but it is my favourite because this was the spot that David proposed to me. It is taken at the top of the stairs at my mother’s house right beside our Christmas tree. We have always been short for space when opening presents in that little hallway so when David was invited to share Christmas morning with me and my siblings we had to settle with sitting on the stairs together. Little did I know that this was perfect because when I opened my Christmas present (a jewellery box) David was able to be down on one knee without me even registering what he was doing.
As I opened the box and started to explore all of the compartments my younger sister Nicole spotted the ring before I did. She started to get all excited and tell my brothers to all sit and listen which seemed a little strange to me but I don’t catch onto things like that. Then I saw it. I looked back to see David smiling up at me and holding out his hand for me to pass him the ring. I did and he asked me to marry him and I, of course, said yes between tearing up and laughing.
A proposal in front of your whole family isn’t something everyone would appreciate but I am exceptionally close with my family and so having David ask me to marry him there and allowing us to share this moment with all of them is the best way he could have ever thought to do it.
