This was the question I asked myself after a quick coffee with a friend of mine. We got to talking and I asked her about her engagement. The story was a usual engagement story but with a great little twist. She showed me a picture of a beautiful ring and said, “I am getting something like that, but instead they will be man-made”. First thing that popped in my head was, “Oh, really? Fake? “. I let her go on and learned that the synthetic diamonds are made in a lab. She said they are almost exactly like the real thing except they cost less and they don’t use extensive human labor.

The most popular reason why the synthetic diamonds are becoming more and more popular is because of their price. The great thing is that they are way cheaper than real diamonds. The prices vary from different vendors but the percentage difference for man-made diamonds can range from 10%-60% less than the diamonds created by geological processes. This is great news for couples that cannot afford those over-priced engagement rings and wedding bands. With a little research and luck you could find a beautiful ring that will suit your wishes and needs at an affordable price.

That brings me to my next point. One of the main factors of synthetic diamonds is that they are made in labs. This is great news for our eco-friendly couples and anyone familiar with the term “blood diamond”. The reason why so many people prefer the real diamonds over the synthetic ones are because of the meaning behind them – “diamonds are forever” as the marketing lingo goes. This is also a big factor in the price. Real diamonds can take over a billion years to form until they are found in a mine and cut and polished to perfection for our admiration. For many, this process is more appealing than the process of getting your diamond made in a lab.

In conclusion, for a lot of people this invention is a great option – identical properties of a natural diamond and at a good price. But for the diamond loyalists it would probably not be their first choice. Whether you decide to go for the real thing or the man-made will be up to you. Hopefully this blog gave you some new information and helped you get to your perfect choice.

Have a great day,
