Here are some tips to looking your best and hiring the perfect makeup and hair artist for your wedding day!
by Eryn Shannon Makeup and Hair:
You’ve hired your photographer and said yes to your dress, the next step is to secure your hair and makeup team for your big day! This is one of the most important things you can do. While you’re looking at him, your family and friends will all be looking at you. You’re going to be the center of attention, so who wouldn’t want to look their best?
Step 1. Create a mood board
A fun and great way to determine the look you are going for is by narrowing down your search. Whether you want classic, romantic or natural; just browse through some artist’s portfolios that really speak to you. Most artists have a certain aesthetic that will really match up with the look you are going for.
Step 2. Once you have found a couple artists that really speak to you, reach out!
Ask all the questions you may have that may not be on the artist’s site:
-Are you available for my wedding day?
-What are your rates?
-Do you offer any additional services such as airbrushing or extensions?
-Will you come to me and if so is there an added fee?
-How many artists will be working with my bridal party this day?
-Do you offer a contract and a deposit?
-Do you offer a trial?
Step 3 Set up a trial
Most artists charge for trials as these sessions can last up to 1.5-3 hours, you definitely want to do one!
So when is the best time to do a trial?
This is the perfect opportunity to really wear and live in the look that you are considering. It will also give you the opportunity to see how the makeup and hair lasts throughout the event.
Step 4. Prep for your trial
Have fun researching inspiration photos- your goal will be to communicate what you want, but words like “natural” and “dramatic” can mean different things to different people. Visual inspiration will help both of you to get on the same page.
Step 5. Connect with your artist!
Go with how you feel and trust your gut with what makes you comfortable.
“Do I look and feel my best?” “ Do I still look like me?” “Did I connect with the artist?”
and if the artist scores all “Yes” then book them in and secure your day.
Step 6. Look & Book early
Timing-wise, ideally you should start looking a minimum of six months out from the day
of the wedding so you have ample time to research, meet, and conduct a trial.
Step 7, Have fun!
This is your day, try a few different looks, be daring and most of all have fun!
